"In Praise of Folly" Premiere: A tribute to the creative human folly that makes theater live

"In Praise of Folly" Premiere: A tribute to the creative human folly that makes theater live

With the premiere of the monodrama "In Praise of Madness" in Hall Park, two jubilees were marked: 40 years of the Herceg Novi Theater and 40 years of the artistic work of the actor Milovan Mić Lalović. Both jubilees, as well as the piece based on the work of Erasmus of Rotterdam, have a common denominator - love for the theater, and that is what the audience and the Herceg Novi Theater celebrated together last night. In this way, this year's cultural programs in honor of the Liberation Day and the Day of the Municipality of Herceg Novi were rounded off, exactly 40 years after the first premiere of the Herceg Novi Theater - on October 31, 1984, in the hall of the "Milan Vuković" Elementary School, "Style Exercises" by Raymon Keno were performed , directed by Momir Mićunović. With the desire to mark four decades in the Herceg NoviTheater, the actor Milovan Mićo Lalović adapted the text of the Dutch humanist and philosopher from the beginning of the 16th century, condensing the essence of the famous Renaissance work into a one-hour piece. The role of Madness for the seventy-three-year-old actor was emotional and passionate, and he tried, faithfully to the original text, to shed light on human weaknesses through the words of the main character and criticize society at the time, as well as today. "The text was very interesting for me, but getting to what he wanted to say was not easy, that's what intrigued me the most." The more I read, the more I got to the core and in the end I saw that the 16th century is actually the 21st century. Everything that was then is the same now, except that now they are not kings, at least not in our country, but presidents, not courtiers but ministers, but everything else is the same. At the end of my theatrical career, I wanted to present what shows our general condition, not only here in Montenegro and the region, but everywhere in the world," said Lalović after the premiere. Part of the interesting costume of Madness was a mask in the Renaissance spirit, or rather two different masks - one laughing and the other sad. As Lalović explains, the first shows "small human follies", and the second is there to show some bigger follies embodied in the weaknesses and hypocrisies that govern social situations. He used these jubilees to send a message that Herceg Novi theater must live: "I hope that the city fathers will see that Herceg Novi needs a theater." If any city in Montenegro should have a theater, it is Herceg Novi". The adaptation of "In Praise of Folly" was made in such a way as to summarize the essence of this multi-layered work, whose theme is the weaknesses that arise from human nature, emphasizes the director, Slađana Vujović, who also chose the music. "Several centuries before any announcement of the development of psychological science, Erasmus of Rotterdam shows an extraordinary, deep understanding of human psychology. It remained unchanged, we can only say that those weaknesses that lead to bad results such as greed, power, arbitrariness, have led to a social situation in which all this is accepted or acceptable if it is well packaged, or, as he says - if you don't have a conscience, then nothing can hit you," Vujović said. Looking back on the jubilee, she called the Herceg Novi Theater a continuously unfulfilled dream: "It is something that is happening in the background and is constantly fighting for survival, while achieving a huge number of productions." I hope that it has a future, and that as a city theater". The President of the Board of Directors of the Herceg Novi Theater, Vitka Vujnović, recalled the four decades of the Theater, during which they had 60 premieres, many plays and in many cities, many awards. She explained that Herceg Novi's "Praise to Madness" is actually a dedication and praise to the fine, creative, human craziness that makes theater alive on all meridians, including in Herceg Novi. "It is a praise of the readiness to tackle the lack of a roof over our heads in the Herceg Novi Theater since we are not in the Burovina Palace, the lack of resources that never reach the momentum of our ideas, although the truth is arriving to a certain extent, the lack of technique that would make our projects more luxurious... Praise is due to all those who persevered and persevere in nurturing a theater that lives everywhere in the time it is in and as it is, but finds countless ways to confront us with the past, the present and the future, and it does so strong, striking and sincere, in all colors. Sometimes unforgettable! Finally, if anniversaries are an opportunity to single out the common denominator of our 40 years, then it is without a doubt love," said Vujnović. Vujnović addressed words of gratitude, first of all, to the audience, to the actors, to everyone "who lives or has lived creating the kind of Theater that Herceg Novi deserves, preparing it for a better and safer status of the City Theater, which has long been deserved, just like the permanent address where the Theater will to live". "Convinced that these wishes are small in comparison to the love, joy, effort, praise and awards that we brought equally to the satisfaction of the audience, the Theater and the City, we will continue to encourage their realization," said Vujnović. In the team that gathered around the preparation of the monodrama "In Praise of Folly" produced by the Herceg Novi Theater are: production assistant Lidija Petrona, costume designer Jelena Vasiljević, costume design by Vesna Vukićević, video content by Ernesto Kolarić, graffiti by Daria Ilić Vujović, graphic design by Novica Zečević, light and tone Saša Veličković, and the technical team consists of Zoran Trojanović, Miroslav Bisenić and Rajko Murišić. Songs of exile - early medieval music in Herceg Novi

On Friday, November 8, starting at 7 p.m., an unusual event will be held, a concert of Songs of Exile - early medieval music in Latin (9th-12th century), in the incredible acoustics of St. Jerome's Church. The music of the 9th-12th century is very rarely performed, so concert visitors will have a unique opportunity to touch the music brought to us by manuscripts that are a thousand years old, to hear the fascinating purity of their melodies and the depth of thought of the authors of these songs, as well as to get acquainted with the sound of stringed instruments of the early of the Middle Ages - the Carolingian cypher, whose depictions have come down to us from manuscripts of the 9th-11th century, and the Latin guitar - a copy of the instrument from the sculpture of Benedetto Antelami in the Parma Baptistery (end of the 12th century). The songs of exile will be evoked by a musical trio consisting of: Evgeny Skurat (vocals), Michael Eberle (vocals, kifara) and Danil Ryabchikov (Latin guitar). The program of the Gyrovagi ensemble is dedicated to early medieval (IX-XII century) songs about exile, farewell to the native land, about life far from everything usual and familiar, when everything is falling apart and being created anew. About what was experienced by millions of people both today and a thousand years ago. Entrance: DONATION

Results of the 2024 tourism survey

Results of the 2024 tourism survey

The tourist organization of Herceg-Novi independently conducted the Tourist Survey this year, for the 59th time. Complete data processing was done by the Professional Service of the Tourist Organization of Herceg Novi. The survey was conducted in the field from July 15 to September 15, 2024 using the interview method, but for the first time it was also possible to fill out the survey in online format via the official TOHN website. In the given period, 2,984 questionnaires were collected. As in previous years, the focus of the survey was on tourists who spent at least 48 hours in the destination. The set minimum number of hours spent in the destination increases the validity of the input in the questionnaires, because it gives tourists the opportunity to give more precise answers to the questions about the proposed elements of the tourist offer. According to the country of origin of the surveyed tourists, they are from: Serbia 29.7%, Bosnia and Herceg Novi 15.3%, the United Kingdom 10.1%, Russia 7.8%, France 4.5%, Germany 3.6%, the USA 3, 6%, Poland 3%, Norway 2.3%, Italy 1.8%, and other countries. The age structure of the guests shows that the trend of younger tourists arriving in our destination continued this year compared to previous years. A growth of 5% was recorded by the category of tourists aged 26-35, while the number of tourists aged 65+ decreased by 4%. Herceg Novi as a family destination is recognized as extremely good, as many as 70% of respondents visited our city either with their partner or with their family. Tourists who are visiting the destination for the first time this year recorded a record percentage of 45.3%, which represents a big jump compared to last year when this item amounted to 28.3%. Even 4/5 of the surveyed guests confirmed their return visit to Herceg Novi. In the "How long you stay in the destination" category, tourists who stay 4-7 nights are in first place, while tourists who stay more than 8 nights are in second place. Growth was also recorded in the category of tourists who came on a one- or two-day trip to our city.  The daily consumption of tourists shows that all categories, except the lowest for spending from 0 to 30 euros per day, are on the rise. The growth of 8% in the number of tourists who spend between €100-300 per day is particularly significant, so now every sixth surveyed tourist belongs to this category. We were recognized as a Family destination with a growth trend compared to previous years. We are also an extremely attractive destination for active vacations. The category "Safety of the destination" received the highest rating, which is especially important in today's times. There is also a high rating in the aspect of gastronomic offer, which benefits the positive image of the destination. The guests gave the lowest rating to the quality of local transportation, the cleanliness of the city was rated better this year compared to the previous one, however, it remains one of the items that tourists are less satisfied with. Also, the survey showed a low level of satisfaction with nightlife and entertainment. The biggest change in this year's survey is the addition of the section "Did you know?" which refers to questions about the offers of the Orjen Nature Park, the villages of the hinterland of Herzegovina, and activities in the hinterland and at sea. The results show that only slightly more than a fifth of the respondents were familiar with the offered content. Between 18-24% of tourists would like to visit certain locations or enjoy certain facilities. The final average rating of the destination of 4.16 is satisfactory and provides a good basis for improving the tourist offer. The degree of satisfaction of respondents with the offer and quality of all tourist aspects of our city is certainly the best numerical indicator that this survey provides. The average rating of each of the elements of the tourist offer gives us an insight into which things need to be improved, and which things we can count on as our comparative advantages in relation to other destinations of a similar type.

The Orjen Nature Park is a protected area of the Orjen massif, on the territory of the Municipality of Herceg Novi. The Orjen massif covers 400 km2, three countries, and three municipalities in Montenegro. Orjen has the most beautiful part of the coastal Dinarides, as well as the highest peak on the entire Adriatic coast. The nature park has a dense network of marked trails, both for those who prefer an easy walk to those that challenge even an experienced mountaineer. However, Orjen was not created for people who are used to easy and quick access to reach beautiful mountain spots. In order to find them you will need to make an effort. Among the most attractive, but not among the most difficult, is the path to Veliki kabao (1894 m), the highest point of Orjen, the coastal Dinarides and the entire coast, on both sides of the Adriatic. It was built for a more leisurely outing of the Austro-Hungarian heir to the throne, Prince Rudolph Habsburg, and is the oldest purpose-built hiking trail in Montenegro.

In addition to walking and hiking, Nature park can also be toured by mountain bikes, using the historical, Austro-Hungarian roads, or today's macadam roads that lead practically to all former Orjen katuns.

On Orjen it is also possible to practice many other activities that are in line with nature conservation, such as bird watching, mountain running, paragliding, alpinism, speleology, and on Vrbanj there is also one of the most equipped and modern adventure parks in the region, perfect treat for adrenaline junkies!

The gastronomic offer of the Boka region on Spanish television

Representatives of the national Spanish television are on a study visit to Herceg Novi and Kotor, on the occasion of filming a report on the gastronomic offer of the Boke region, that is, the Mediterranean. The representative of the Tourist Organization of Herceg Novi, Dalibor Vuković, hosted the journalists of the National Spanish Television during their visit to Herceg Novi. It is about the show Aquí la Tierra, which originally dealt with meteorology, and was later expanded to gastronomy. In addition to Spain, the show is broadcast in all Latin American countries. Aquí la Tierra means the broadcasting of three-minute reports from Montenegro. The first reportage refers to the preparation of raštan, as an authentic dish. The second report, at the shellfish farm in Herceg Novi, shows the process of preparing mussels and oysters. The third reportage is about Kotor krempita. The representative of the National Spanish Television, journalist Lucia Bomil, does not hide her enthusiasm for Montenegro: "I am in Montenegro for the first time and I am delighted with the nature. The food is very similar to ours, and that does not surprise me, because the climatic conditions are similar. What we eat in our regions, we can also find here with you", said Bomio. For the Tourism Organization of Herceg Novi, this is a very important collaboration, which was started at last year's Tourism Fair in Madrid, and which aims to affirm the Boke region, and Montenegro, on an important market that has not been represented until now. It is a market that has great potential. About 2,850 overnight stays were recorded this year, which is 16% more than last year. The reason for this success is good air connectivity. Experiences from the tourism fair in Madrid show that Spaniards want to visit the Mediterranean in the pre- and post-season months. Their focus is on getting to know the destination and the culture. At the next appearance at the Tourism Fair in Madrid, the topic of discussion will be a new tourist show, which will last longer and promote the destination through several aspects. Promotion of Herceg Novi at "Banoštor Grape Days"

At the 28th "Banoštor Grape Days" event, which celebrates wine, viticulture and harvesting on the northern slopes of Fruška Gora, the Herceg Novi Tourist Organization promoted the programs that await us in Herceg Novi during the New Year holidays and the Mimosa Festival. After Sarajevo and Zlatibor, this past Saturday, in Banoštor, was an opportunity to present the offer of content during the upcoming winter season and at the same time the continuation of the good cooperation between the twin cities of Beočin and Herceg Novi. Visitors and guests of the Banoštor grape vineyard had the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of the highest quality wines and a sales bazaar that presents a rich offer of Vojvodina cuisine, cakes, honey and cheeses from Srem, as well as craft products and souvenirs. The organizers of the event are the Tourism Organization of the Municipality of Beočin, the Club of Vinegrowers and Winemakers "Sveti Trifun" as well as the Local Community of Banoštor, with the support of the Cultural Center of Beočin, and the main sponsor of the event is the Municipality of Beočin.

City of greenery, seas, beaches, festivals and culture. A city of good hosts, warm welcomes and memories that last a lifetime.

Founded in 2005 with the aim of promoting our city as a tourist destination and improving the tourist environment of Herceg Novi. For 18 years, we have been working hard to present our city in the most beautiful light to the rest of the world and to create and implement the most beautiful ideas that will raise our city to a new level, not only for the benefit of tourists but also for the residents of Herceg Novi - the Pearl of the Adriatic. This task is not difficult, considering that our city is aboundant in beautiful natural landscapes, clear sea, rich cultural scene, recognizable festivals, imposing and long history and most importantly good people who are the most important factor of the tourist product. We hope that in the coming years and decades, as we have done so far, with the help of all the citizens of Herceg Novi, we will continue to introduce the rest of the world to what Herceg Novi has to offer in our efforts to make this beautiful coastal town a world tourist destination.
